An artist talk by Japan’s cultural envoy for the fiscal year of 2015 in the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan, Ms Mikuni Yanaihara and Mr Keisuke Takahashi a visual artist was held at JCC on 25th September 2015.

Both artists established their own dance company called Nibroll in Tokyo, they have been producing performances with various musicians, fine art practitioners and video artists. The ultimate aim: to create an unconventional framework of performances be it in a form of dance, play, movie or a concert.

As Nibroll leaves all the decision-making to their audience, they are able to explore many possibilities of visual and physical expression with relevant communication. During the talk itself, Ms Yanaihara and Mr Takahashi directly engaged with their audience of various walks of life.

Technical students from Temasek Polytechnic and Japan, Faculty from Vienna University teacher from Singapore Polytechnic to industry professionals attended the talk to discuss the efforts of their contemporary art form.

We received feedback from our guests such as:

“I have learnt how to appreciate such an art better than before!”
“There is always a meaning behind the actions of the dancers.”
“The piece shown to us ‘A Quiet Day’, is very impressive as the small houses were filmed and presented to depict things that usually people would not notice.”

  • suggesting that contemporary art only grow and inspire more to appreciate the creativity of the form.
